We are thrilled to announce that the theme for Global Community Engagement Day 2019 is Engaging with Activists! This theme was chosen by Dr Wendy Sarkissian, whose birthday we honoured by naming 28 January as Global Community Engagement Day!
Engage 2 Act invites you to submit blogs, videos, photos, poems, sketches or another medium on the topic of Engaging with Activists. We want to hear your thoughts on this topic, which might include reflections such as -
My life as an activist
Social media and online activism
Arm chair activists and keyboard warriors
The vocal minority?
Activists I admire - past or present
Stories of successful activism
The power of campaigning
Working with activists to plan engagement
Wendy would also love to see some of the topics from Chapter 6 of Kitchen Table Sustainability in the reflections. A highly recommended read!
Understanding the role of activism vis-a-vis community engagement
Dealing with activists' frustration with inaction in community engagement
Understanding activism as a response to inaction
The risks of making promises (to activists and other) on behalf of others -- that you may not be able to keep (the principal-agent dilemma)
Understanding why activists bypass community engagement processes or are reluctant (or even refuse) to engage
Understanding activist views of the status quo and how structures resist change
Recipes for action to achieve transformative change through community engagement
Ways of supporting generative relationships with activists
How and what engagement practitioners can learn from activists
How we value and/or demonise activists and what we can do about it.
Submit your entries by posting them to social media using #commengageday on or before 28 January 2019.
Wendy will judge the entries and announce the winner during February 2019! The winning entry will take pride of place on the Engage 2 Act blog.
